What a great 2 days get away! I was searching for a place to
stay in Marin and Smileys pops up with a listing on Airbnb. I checked the
reviews and the place seemed so cute with a lot of good comments! Even though
Bolinas is only 12 miles north of San Francisco, it is a town that many people
have not heard of and with a little google search, I soon understand why.
“The town Bolinas is known for its reclusive residents, it’s
only accessible via google maps, since the sign 2 Bolinas has repeatly torn
town by local residents”
So the 3 of us head out, gas up and got our sandwiches at
Rolling Out in SF,
pass the beautiful Golden Gate. Every part of our outing is adventurous.
We were suppose the hike Alamere Falls this morning, but
plan changed when we couldn't get there in time so we decided to do Mount Home Inn to Muir Woods hike.
We got kind of lost on Lost Trail lol.
Lots of redwood trees, stairs, bridges, and creeks later, we
arrived at Visitor’s Center.
We had our lunch there but were attacked by bee….
After our lunch, we head back up to Mount Home Inn and
decided to have a cold drink to reward our 6 miles hike. P.S. We saved $10 admission by going to Muir Woods from Mount Home Inn.
We checked into Smiley’s Schooner Saloon and Hotel. The room
was comfy and clean.
After a short rest, we went to explore the town of Bolinas.
We stopped by the museum and it was closed, so we went next
door to the wildlife gallery, there we learned about hummingbirds, then we
stopped by Bolinas Gallery, saw some oil painting, I liked the Stinson beach
outlook. Then we walked to Bolinas
beach.
That night, we ate at the only restaurant in town, Coast
Café, which is across the street. We had gumbo, rosemary chicken, and caprese.
Food was excellent!
Then we checked out the kitchen and the lounge area. Next
time we would be more prepared to use the kitchen.
That night, we checked out the Saloon since we got a coupon for free drinks. The bar had nice live music and the bartender give us kumbucha, yum!!!
The next morning, we woke up with a lovely cool coastal fog.
Even though the only restaurant is closed on Monday, there were other options
to food. We stopped by Natural Food and had the best chai. Then grab a banana
bread and sandwich to go at the café for our Alamere Fall hike
On our way to Alamere Falls, there were so much fog that it
looked so mysterious J
We arrived at the trailhead, on the way to the waterfall, we got some tip from the hiker:
8.5 miles if you use the shortcut, 14 miles if not. After we found out about the short cut, there was no reason
to go to the regular trail.
We found the short cut that looks like this...
Only thing we had to watch out is poison oak.
Finally arrived at the waterfall!!!
Alamere Fall is a rare “tidefall,” a waterfall that flows
directly into the ocean.
It was hard to climb down, but we did it!!!
