Helsinki

We went on a 12 day Scandinavia cruise with Celebrity in 2023...Here's the highlight on day 6.

Day 6 Helsinki, Finland (5/30/23)- happiest country in the world

Founded in the 16th century by the King of Sweden, Helsinki was originally established to rival the bustling trading port of Tallinn. Unfortunately, growth was slow and most of the city died during the plague of 1710. It wasn’t until the Russians annexed the region that it started to develop and grow into the city it is today!

We did a self walking tour since Paul has been here before.

As soon as we get off the ship, we walked into market where many birds are gathered for food.- spotted reindeer hot dog and some goodies

  • Helsinki Cathedral- Neoclassical style located at Senate square
  • Central Market Hall- have seafood soup!

  • Uspenski Cathedral-is considered to be the largest Orthodox temple in Western Europe.

  • Lovers bridge- next to the cathedral

  • Espanade Park- walk and have lunch there.

  • Rock church- don’t miss it when visiting Helsinki

  • Watch sauna culture in Finland
