Las Vegas to Grand Canyon

My husband had always wanted to take the kids to Grand Canyon when they are young, somehow busyness gets in the way. Finally this year as one kid graduating from college and another kid entering in college, we decided to take the grand trip!

We packed and called uber. SJC- LV took a little bit over 1 hour.

We picked up our car at Budget (really long line…) Before we begin… I need to point out that Paul’s toe has been swollen before the trip, and the temperature is hot hot hot.
We checked into Downtown Grand, Las Vegas
This night we explored Fremont Street
Checked out Slot Zilla

Day 2
Stopped by Pawn Star Shop

Vesta Coffee Roasters- best breakfast ever!

Then we stopped by Hoover Dam, it was an incredible site. There were traffic on the way there due to the holiday week. (July 4th)

Then the drive to Grand Canyon West skywalk. We saw tons of Joshua trees and some goats.

Then we arrived at Grand Canyon West.   This was not a pleasant, so skip it if you wish.
First of all, if you are planning to go to the actual Grand Canyon, do not, I repeat, do not go to skywalk. It’s expensive, long wait and simply not worth it.

But if you just want to see the Canyon and don’t have time to see the Actual Grand Canyon, then maybe it’s worth the wait and the experience.

This day was all about lines, lines, and lines.  Patience definitely played a part of our experience here.

Then it took us another 4 hours to drive to Grand Canyon. We arrived before midnight…

Since all the places inside the Grand Canyon were all booked, we opted for Best Western in Tusayan, AZ
We arrived late at night and it was 50F, I wasn't expecting the cold temperature since it was 106F in Las Vegas the day before.

Checked into hotel. Best Western Grand Canyon. It is a very nice hotel!!!

The next morning, we use their gym before heading out.

We had breakfast at RP's Stage Stop- good sandwich and coffee stop before catch a shuttle into Grand Canyon

We first stopped by the visitor's center where we learned what to do if you have 1/2 a day here
We decided to watch the movie, stop by Mather Point, and hike Kaibab Trail

Kaibab Trail was the best part of Grand Canyon, hike with not many people around, plus we got to see mule!!!
We couldn’t make it to Ooh Aah Point since Paul’s toe was hurting…
But it was still a cool experience! Highly recommended!!!

The next day, we went back to Grand Canyon driving along the desert view stopping at duck on a rock, grandview point, navajo point, tusayan ruins, and watchtower.
Grandview point

Duck on a rock?

Watchtower- a must visit!
